Reman Day 2019 Recap

Last modified: 05/24/2019

The Davies Office celebration of Reman Day 2019 was a great success! On April 11th, visitors came to take the grand tour of The Davies Office facility, learn about our day to day operations and how we keep sustainability at the forefront of all our practices.

The staff and guests had lots of fun taking pictures in the photo booths set up around the production area and warehouse. Derrick Byrd, our National Sales Manager, gave a thorough walk-through of our production and warehousing operations. Doug Pilgrim, our National Business Development Manager, did a fantastic job of presenting the Davies philosophy and past projects, and how we accommodated the customer’s requests through use of remanufactured furniture.

In case you missed it, here were the main points of Reman Day Presentation given by Dougimportance to highlight throughout the day: Doug provided a little background of how the office furniture industry morphed from high-wall cubicle farms into open concept collaboration zones. But what kept Davies standing apart from other leading office furniture vendors, was how they contributed positively to the environment by remanufacturing office product instead of sending product to the landfills, which equates to about 9.7 million tons of office furniture and furnishings saved yearly.

Furniture is fashion, it’s always about what’s new and in demand. The growing trend of lower height workstations makes it easy to incorporate the remanufacturing approach because instead of businesses just throwing away their used product because it doesn’t achieve the new look they are going for, Davies has the resources to cut down and remodel the existing product. If Davies did not provide a sustainable option, that would yield up to $120,000,000 worth of furniture that would now be obsolete because it was incapable of transformation. Not only is that an economic waste, but also an environmental waste.

Programs like sustainable product exchange and banking encourage strong working relationships between companies and Davies because we can do it all: clean out their current work space, take back their old, unwanted product, provide new or better than new remanufactured furniture, deliver and install — a full circle operation. Remanufacturing also allows Davies to do flexible brand conversions to utilize multiple product lines to give customers a truly customized workplace solution based on their specific needs.

A lifecycle analysis (LCA) is performed on Davies products to make sure we are practicing what we preach, which examines water pollution, climate change, ozone depletion, etc. and on average, the process of remanufacturing creates an environmental footprint that is under 20% than the original OEM. Office Furniture Lifecycle

Davies Office is the first and only furniture remanufacturer to achieve BIFMA/ANSI level® certification on its products. Davies has earned the BIFMA E3 Level furniture sustainability standard certification for commercial furniture amongst these 9 product lines: Steelcase 9000, Steelcase Avenir, Steelcase Answer, Herman Miller Ethospace, Herman Miller AO2, Haworth Places, Haworth Unigroup, Haworth Premise, and Knoll Morrison. BIFMA supports efforts to make a workplace a better environment by promoting health, safety, sustainability and overall performance.

Davies Office is not the only company that embraces this green way of life and participates in this global holiday. Caterpillar, John Deere, CoreCentric Solutions, Delphi Technologies and more implement remanufacturing to create innovative aspects to old parts for the good of the environment. These few businesses among others have found that with remanufacturing comes a circular ongoing economic relationship as well as reducing waste, energy and raw materials.

Doug teaches continuing education courses covering a wide range of subjects and his exact presentation given on Reman day can be found online at www.aecdaily.com. A huge thank you to all participants who made this day happen. Here’s to another great year and plenty more successful Reman Days to come!
